How we handle your personal information, and what the information on this website is (and isn’t).
Draft: Horizon to review and approve before launch. Last updated [date].
Horizon Legal & Migration Pty Ltd (ACN 702 585 420) (“we”, “us”) is a legal practice in Sydney. This policy explains how we handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Contact details; information about your legal or visa matter; identity documents; and, where needed for your matter, sensitive information such as health information, family circumstances or immigration history. We only collect what we need to act for you.
Mostly from you, by phone, email, our online booking and enquiry forms, and in meetings. Sometimes from others with your consent or where the law allows, for example government departments, tribunals, courts or the other party in a dispute.
To respond to your enquiry, give you advice, act for you, manage our business and billing, and meet our legal and professional obligations.
Where needed for your matter: the Department of Home Affairs, tribunals and courts, barristers, interpreters, translators and other experts. We also use service providers for email, client management and booking systems [confirm providers and whether any data is stored outside Australia]. We never sell your information.
Communications with your lawyer for the purpose of legal advice are generally confidential and privileged. We protect that privilege.
Our site uses only what it needs to work [confirm analytics tool and cookies once chosen]. Forms send your details securely to our client management system.
We store information securely, limit access to people who need it, and keep client files for the period the law requires before destroying them securely.
You can ask to see or correct the information we hold about you by contacting us. We respond within a reasonable time, usually 30 days.
Contact us first. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
The information on this website is general information only and is not legal or migration advice. Laws, visa rules and fees change often. No outcome can be guaranteed. Please book a consultation for advice about your situation.
